Lounaistieto
Lounaistieto is a regional information service operating in Southwest Finland. It is the first regional data infrastructure in Finland and it hosts more than 400 thematic geospatial data layers of the region. In addition to the free map service and data portal, Lounaistieto provides statistical analysis and other services that are designed especially for regional authorities and decision-makers, researchers, students, citizens, organisations and NGOs, media, and business. Most of the data available is only in Finnish.
The University of Turku is a founding member (est. 2002) of Lounaistieto (previously called Lounaispaikka). Today, Lounaistieto is funded by Regional Councils of Southwest Finland and Satakunta, University of Turku, City of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, and Novia University of Applied Sciences. Lounaistieto has vivid cooperation also with other regional councils, municipalities, Finnish Environmental Institute, Turku Museum Centre, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Southwest Finland and other organisations.
Lounaistieto, coordinated by the Regional Council of Southwest Finland organizes events, shares information about open data and publishes statistics of the region. The aim is to actively develop regional open data networks and GIS-cooperation.
